Stable Friends focuses directly on pairing foster children with horses, for 8 full years, that become steady companions through uncertain seasons of life.  We are responsible for the care of the horse so that it is healthy and available to the child at any given moment.

At the heart of Stable Friends is the quiet engine that makes long-term healing possible: the John L Rodacker Jr Foundation.

Its purpose is simple, but ambitious: to create lasting financial stability for programs that support vulnerable children and at-risk horses, so compassion is not dependent on one fundraiser, one season, or one generous moment.

The Foundation exists to build the roots beneath the mission.

It allows the organization to think beyond “surviving this year” and instead build something that can serve children, horses, and families for generations.

The Foundation also provides a pathway for larger gifts, donor-advised funds, legacy giving, property donations, stock gifts, and other philanthropic investments that help create permanent impact. Those resources support horse rescue and retirement, therapeutic programming, scholarships, operational infrastructure, land stewardship, and the expansion of Stable Friends throughout Colorado and beyond.

In many ways, the Foundation serves as the roots of a tree.
The programs, children, horses, laughter, healing, and transformation are what people see above ground.
But beneath it all is an unseen system holding everything steady through storms, droughts, and changing seasons. 🌿

Because healing takes time.
Trust takes time.
And some things worthy of saving should never depend on temporary support alone.

The Foundation welcomes grants from donor advised funds including Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, and community foundations.
